Face Controlled Wheelchair, An Amazing Innovation For Paralyzed People

Those people who are partially paralyzed always need wheelchairs and some other things in order to make some movements and perform some limited functions of their need. However, those people who are unluckily paralyzed from the neck down even can’t control a wheelchair with a joystick. Therefore, to overcome the problem of such type of paralyzed people, a research team from Miyazaki University has developed a prototype that only need some little face movement to control and drive the wheelchair.

To drive the wheelchair forward, user will need to clench the jaw while another clench will stop it. To turn the wheelchair left or right, user need to wink its left or right eye. Actually an array of electrodes will connect to the face of the user, which will sense the user's action and then forward it to the control part of the wheelchair. Proximity sensors are also feature in the prototype that will stop the wheelchair in order to avoid the collision.
